The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and recovered 5,676 pieces of assorted illicit drugs during intelligence-led raids conducted across parts of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday, saying the operation was part of the police’s sustained efforts to combat drug-related crimes and enhance public safety.
According to him, the arrested suspects are Umar Rabiu, popularly known as Sarka, 22, of Unguwar Gamji; Auwalu Muhammad, 25, of Gusau Quarters; and Umar Akilu, 25, of Kuka village.
Shiisu said the coordinated raids, which formed part of the Command’s ongoing crackdown on the sale, distribution, and abuse of illicit substances, led to the recovery of 5,676 pieces of suspected illicit drugs.
The recovered items include Exol Tramadol, Diazepam, Pregabalin, rubber solution, Lara capsules, codeine syrup, substances locally known as “Suck and Die,” and Indian hemp.
He added that the operatives also recovered N93,626, suspected to be proceeds from the illicit drug trade.
The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to disrupting the activities of drug traffickers in the state.
He noted that drug abuse and illicit trafficking remain major drivers of violent crimes and other social vices, particularly among young people.
The commissioner warned individuals involved in the sale, distribution, or consumption of prohibited drugs to desist or face the full weight of the law.
He assured residents that the Command would continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and bringing offenders to justice.
Shiisu said the suspects have been arraigned in court.
