The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State, Senator Sabo Mohammed Nakudu, has strongly denied allegations of corruption contained in a petition submitted to the party’s national leadership, describing the claims as unfounded, malicious and politically driven.
In a statement issued by the Media and Publicity Directorate of the Sabo Mohammed Nakudu/Malam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim Campaign Organisation, the campaign dismissed the petition as a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement, signed by Mati Ali, was released in response to a petition dated July 7, 2026, allegedly submitted by Abubakar Sani and Ibrahim Maijama’a, who claimed to be ADC members from Gwaram Local Government Area.
According to him, the petition forms part of a wider effort by political opponents to distract the party and undermine the growing support enjoyed by the ADC governorship ticket across the state.
The organisation insisted that Senator Nakudu has never been convicted or found guilty of any corruption-related offence, arguing that the allegations are recycled political accusations that have repeatedly surfaced during election seasons without resulting in any legal findings against him.
It further described the former senator as a respected businessman and public servant who has contributed to the development of Jigawa State through constituency projects, humanitarian support and community development initiatives.
They warned that legal action would be taken against individuals or groups responsible for producing or circulating what it termed defamatory and misleading materials aimed at tarnishing the candidate’s image.
It also urged party members and supporters to ignore the petition and remain committed to the ADC’s campaign activities in preparation for the 2027 governorship election.
Reaffirming confidence in its electoral prospects, the campaign said it would continue to focus on presenting policies and programmes designed to address the developmental needs of Jigawa State.
The statement came in response to an earlier petition addressed to ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, in which the petitioners called on the party to replace Senator Nakudu as its governorship candidate.
They alleged that the former lawmaker, who represented Jigawa South-West Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023, was indicted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the alleged diversion of constituency project funds.
