A group of members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State has petitioned the party’s National Chairman, calling on the leadership to carefully review the political future of former Senator Sabo Nakudu over allegations contained in reports on constituency projects.
The petition, submitted to the ADC National Secretariat, was jointly signed by Abubakar Sani (ADC Membership Card No. JI-GWA-GW-71427) and Ibrahim Mai Jama’a (ADC Membership Card No. JI-GWA-GW-218332).
In the petition, the members expressed concern over media reports arising from investigations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) involving the former senator, who represented Jigawa South-West Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023 and recently contested the party’s governorship primary alongside Hon. Bashir Adamu, popularly known as Matawallen Kazaure.
The petitioners cited reports alleging that the ICPC recovered about ₦2.8 billion from Senator Nakudu and two other lawmakers in connection with constituency projects.
They also referred to reports claiming that two Toyota Hilux vehicles, water pumping machines, motorcycles and drilling rigs allegedly linked to companies associated with the former lawmaker were recovered during the investigation.
Among the reports referenced in the petition is a Premium Times publication of April 12, 2022, titled “Constituency Projects: How Kebbi, Jigawa, Taraba Senators Robbed Constituents, Cornered Huge Contracts – Report.” The petition also cited a report published on April 25, 2022, titled “ICPC Indicts Bwacha, Nakudu, Others Over Constituency Projects,” as well as comments made by public affairs analyst Dr. Reuben Abati on the issue.
According to the petitioners, the allegations and the public attention they generated could expose the ADC to political attacks ahead of the 2027 governorship election if Senator Nakudu eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.
They urged the party leadership to conduct thorough due diligence on all aspirants seeking elective office, arguing that presenting candidates facing significant public controversies could undermine the ADC’s message of transparency, accountability and good governance.
The petition further stated that many residents of Jigawa State are looking to the ADC as an alternative platform and cautioned that the party should avoid actions capable of affecting its electoral prospects.
The petition concluded by calling on the ADC National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) to carefully examine the issues raised and take appropriate action in the interest of the party and the people of Jigawa State.
The allegations referenced in the petition are based on reports cited by the petitioners. There is no indication in the petition that Senator Sabo Nakudu has been convicted of any offence.
