The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed Mustapha Sule Lamido as its sole governorship candidate for Jigawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the party’s primary election committee, Barrister Isah Ahmad, announced Lamido’s emergence following what he described as a consensus arrangement adopted by the party.
He said the affirmation was conducted in line with the PDP constitution and relevant provisions of the law.
Barrister Ahmad added that the exercise was carried out in the presence of security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
He commended party leaders and members in the state for maintaining unity throughout the process.
In his acceptance speech, Lamido expressed appreciation to the party’s stakeholders for giving him the opportunity to contest again in the 2027 governorship election.
He pledged to implement programmes aimed at economic growth, youth empowerment, education reform and improved healthcare if elected.
According to him, his administration would focus on rebuilding the state through policies centred on unity, social development, institutional reform and responsible leadership.
Lamido stated that the vision he presented during the 2023 governorship campaign remains relevant due to the continued economic hardship and governance challenges facing the state.
“We are back in the race today because the problems and challenges bedevilling our dear state are still with us, including unprecedented hardship, bad governance and insensitive leadership,” he said.
The PDP candidate also expressed concern over what he described as declining standards in education, challenges in the healthcare sector and the increasing hardship faced by citizens.
