The Kano State Government has referred petitions and counter-petitions against Islamic cleric Sheikh Lawan Triumph to the state’s Shura Council for review.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the referral “for further deliberations,” according to a statement issued Thursday by Musa Tanko, press secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Among the groups that submitted petitions are Safiyatul Islam of Nigeria, Tijjaniya Youth Enlightenment Forum, Interfaith Parties for Peace and Development, Sairul Qalbi Foundation, Habbullah Mateen Foundation, Imams of Juma’at Mosques under the Qadiriyya Movement, Committee of Sunnah Preachers in Kano, and Multaqa Ahbab Alsufiyya.
SSG Umar Farouk Ibrahim said the Shura Council had been directed to “carefully study and advise” on the matter.
“The Kano State Government remains committed to safeguarding peace, unity, and mutual respect among all religious groups in the state,” the statement added.
