The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) has announced plans to establish a professional training school in Kano State as part of efforts to deepen its partnership with the Kano State Government in promoting quality infrastructure delivery and strengthening professional capacity in the construction industry.
The President of the institute, Associate Professor Aminu Muhammad Bashir, disclosed this during the 11th Investiture, Swearing-in Ceremony and Annual Dinner of the 2026–2028 Executive Committee of the NIQS Kano State Chapter, held under the theme, “Digitisation, Ethics, and Excellence: Advancing Quantity Surveying Practice for Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Kano State.”
Bashir said the proposed training school would provide continuous professional development in construction and project cost management, equipping young quantity surveyors with the practical knowledge and technical skills required to meet the growing demands of the industry.
He described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of the profession, adding that it would create opportunities for aspiring professionals to enhance their competence while supporting the delivery of quality infrastructure projects.
The NIQS President also commended the Kano State Government for its sustained collaboration with members of the institute, noting that the partnership has improved standards, accountability and value for money in the execution of public projects.
According to him, the involvement of professional quantity surveyors in government projects has continued to enhance transparency and ensure prudent management of public resources.
The Kano State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Engr. Dr. Gaddafi Sani Shehu, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to engaging members of the institute in the execution of public projects.
He said the government would continue to strengthen its partnership with NIQS to promote professionalism, transparency and quality service delivery across ministries and agencies.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the NIQS Kano State Chapter, Alhaji Sa’idu Musa Gyadi-Gyadi, pledged to promote the profession through sustained public enlightenment and advocacy.
He said the chapter would embark on media campaigns and visits to schools to encourage more young people to study Quantity Surveying and pursue careers in the profession.
Gyadi-Gyadi also expressed appreciation to Mangal Cement and AMKAR General Merchandise Limited for sponsoring the investiture ceremony.
In separate goodwill messages, a former Chairman of the Kano State Chapter and Fellow of the institute, Alhaji Muhammad Bala Dakata, and Auwal Sani Shehu urged members to uphold the ethics, integrity and professionalism that define the quantity surveying profession.
The ceremony also witnessed the inauguration of the new executive committee of the Kano State Chapter, with Alhaji Sa’idu Musa Gyadi-Gyadi assuming office as Chairman alongside other elected officers for the 2026–2028 tenure.
Certificates of appointment were presented to the newly inaugurated executive members, while past chairmen of the institute received awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the NIQS in Kano State.
