The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi as sole candidates for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections, respectively, adopting consensus instead of primaries ahead of the polls.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Chief Pree Secretary to the Governor Hamisu Muhammad Gumel issued to newsmen.

The decision was reached on Sunday during a meeting of the party’s Elders Committee, described as the highest decision-making body of the APC in the state and made up of senior stakeholders from across Jigawa.

Reading the resolutions of the meeting, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Garba MK, said the endorsement followed extensive deliberations by party leaders.

He said the committee unanimously backed President Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate in 2027 and Governor Namadi as the sole governorship candidate in Jigawa State.

Garba added that the committee also agreed to take responsibility for the nomination processes of both candidates, including the purchase of their nomination forms.

According to him, the party in the state had chosen unity and consensus as its strategy for the forthcoming elections.

He explained that committees would be constituted at both state and local government levels to ensure due diligence for all aspirants and produce one consensus candidate for each elective position.

Thearrangement, he said, would apply to Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats.

Representatives of the three senatorial zones in the state also declared support for the resolutions.

Speaking on behalf of Jigawa Central, Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu said party leaders in the zone fully endorsed Tinubu and Namadi and were ready to support the purchase of their nomination forms.

From Jigawa North-West, Alhaji Isah Muhammad Gerawa said leaders in the zone had also adopted Tinubu and Namadi as single candidates for the 2027 elections.

Senator Muhammad Ibrahim Kirikasamma, speaking for Jigawa North-East, described the endorsement as unanimous, saying stakeholders in the zone wholeheartedly supported both candidates.
