Hippopotamus attack Fisher men killed 3 in Adamawa

Kiri community in Shelleng  Local Government area of Adamawa State have raised concern over frequent attack of Hippopotamus which results to the death of three persons.

The attacks occurred in different occasions killing the residents and injured others.

The reaction following the Friday attack that led to the death of 65 years old Yakubu Galadima, popularly know as Yakubu Kuri while fishing.

According to the source closed to the one of the deceased told DAILY POST ” this particular person was a household man, he has about 8 children” 

“So Yesterday after Asir prayer he went to the river to catch  fish as it is his means of livelihood, when he met his end” 

“The incident happened when he was a inside his fishing boat, the hippo appears at first he did not see it and  people outside saw it, and they try to alert him, but  couldn’t hear them calling him” 

“So before he noticed, it has already reach his boat, he got scared by it suddenly appearance and he jump inside the river leaving his boat, and that is how the hippo got to him and caught him by his leg then dragged him in to the deeper side of the river”

He said, the Hippocampus belongs to the government and is not allowed to kill it without the government’s approval

The relevant authorities are yet to comment on the issue, nor the Adamawa state government.

They urged for Government as a matter of urgency tackle the problem.
