The Jigawa State Police Command has launched a statewide Crime-Free Christmas Campaign aimed at ensuring peaceful and secure celebrations during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The initiative was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, and made available to newsmen in Dutse.
According to the statement, the command successfully conducted a one-day nationwide Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), tagged “Crime-Free Christmas Campaign/Sensitization.” The exercise forms part of proactive measures to promote safety and prevent criminal activities across the state during the festive period.
SP Adam explained that the campaign was carried out simultaneously across all Divisional Police Headquarters in Jigawa State, following a directive from the Commissioner of Police.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to mobilize critical stakeholders within their Areas of Responsibility and sensitize them on the dangers and consequences of social vices and criminal activities.
The statement added that key areas addressed during the sensitization included cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, vandalism, mob action, alleged witchcraft practices, footprint tracing, gender-based violence, and other social vices capable of threatening public peace and security.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to community-oriented policing and called on parents, guardians, religious and traditional leaders, youths, civil society organisations, the media, and the general public to support ongoing efforts to combat criminality and promote peace, justice, and lawful conduct.
The police further urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency communication channels, assuring the people of Jigawa State of adequate security deployment throughout the festive period and beyond.
