Gunmen have abducted five persons in a renewed attack on Lakwaya town in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at Zurin Mahauta village, throwing residents into fear and tension.
Confirming the attack, the village head of Zurin Mahauta, Alhaji Murtala Mai Unguwa, said the assailants invaded the community under the cover of darkness and whisked away the victims to an unknown location.
Mai Unguwa disclosed that security operatives were immediately alerted and responded swiftly, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down the abductors and rescue the victims.
He noted that residents were increasingly worried by the recurring attacks and appealed for a sustained security presence to protect lives and property in the area.
Also confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, said five persons were kidnapped during the attack.
“Only five people were abducted, and troops are doing their best to ensure their safe return to their families,” Zubairu said.
