The Jigawa State Government has directed all senior political appointees and the 27 local government chairmen to fully participate in its Back-to-School campaign aimed at tackling the rising number of out-of-school children in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Hon. Sagir Ahmed Musa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse.
He said the state government has set up committees to coordinate, supervise, and ensure effective implementation of the programme across all communities.
According to him, “The initiative follows a presentation made by the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Haruna Musa, during the State Executive Council meeting in Dutse.”
Hon. Sagir explained that the Council established two committees for smooth execution of the directive— a Steering Committee chaired by the Commissioner for Basic Education, and a Technical Committee headed by the SUBEB Chairman.
He added that the Governor directed all senior political appointees, including the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Technical Advisers, Director-Generals, and Executive Secretaries, to each facilitate the return of at least 100 out-of-school children within their communities.
Similarly, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants are expected to ensure that no fewer than 50 children return to school.
“All the 27 Local Government Chairmen must personally ensure that at least 1,000 children in their LGAs are back in school before the commencement of the 2026 second academic term,” he added.
The governor emphasized that the directive is central to his administration’s commitment to reducing out-of-school numbers, expanding access to quality basic education, and strengthening human capital development.
He called on government officials, community leaders, parents, and stakeholders to work together to ensure every child in Jigawa State has the opportunity to learn and succeed.
