The Jigawa State Police Command has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media alleging the movement of armed bandits in Dutse metropolis.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the Command’s attention was drawn to a viral video claiming that on October 28, 2025, at about 12:47 a.m., a large number of armed bandits riding motorcycles were seen moving through Dutse metropolis at high speed toward an unknown destination.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that the report is entirely false, misleading, and mischievous,” the statement read.
SP Shiisu explained that upon investigation, it was discovered that the individuals captured in the video were actually members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation (Hunters) from Bauchi State. The group, he said, was returning from a meeting held at Chai-Chai Sabuwa in Ringim Local Government Area when the video was recorded.
He added that the hunters were fully kitted with their traditional working tools, including dane guns, bows, and arrows, which may have led to the false assumption that they were armed bandits.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the viral video, describing it as a deliberate misrepresentation capable of causing unnecessary fear and panic among residents.
While reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Command called on residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear.
SP Shiisu also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station, assuring that the Command remains steadfast in maintaining peace, law, and order across Jigawa State.
