The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has assured that the Federal Government will always protect officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces carrying out their lawful duties.
The minister gave the assurance on Wednesday during a press briefing to mark the commencement of activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the National Defence College, Abuja.
“At the ministry, and indeed within the armed forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty,” Badaru said. “Rest assured that any officer performing his duty credibly and within the law will be protected. I will not allow anything to happen to any officer doing his job diligently.”
His remarks came in the wake of a recent confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and some soldiers who reportedly stopped him and his entourage from accessing a land in the Gaduwa district of Abuja.
The FCT minister, visibly angered by the soldiers’ action, questioned their presence at the site and insisted that no one is above the law.
He also alleged that due process was not followed in the land’s development.
