The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced plans to resume the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit for vehicles nationwide.
The decision was contained in a press statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, and issued to journalists on Monday.
According to the statement, the resumption of enforcement follows a careful review of emerging security concerns and the need to ensure the safety of lives and property across the country.
The police clarified that the renewed enforcement, scheduled to commence on January 2, 2026, is pending the final determination of a related matter currently before the court.
“It is important to clarify that at no point did the court restrain the Nigeria Police Force from enforcing the provisions of the law regarding the use of tinted glass on vehicles,” the statement said.
The Force explained that enforcement was earlier suspended in the interest of responsibility, transparency and public convenience, to allow motorists ample time to regularise their documentation and complete the registration process without undue pressure.
However, the police observed that the suspension was being exploited by some individuals and organised criminal groups to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent offences.
“In view of this development, the Nigeria Police Force has found it both necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard our communities,” the statement added.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement would be carried out with utmost professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights and in strict compliance with extant laws.
The police urged motorists who require tinted glass permits to apply through approved channels and ensure that their vehicles comply with all legal requirements
