Police Arrest 42-Year-Old for Unlawful Arms Possession in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 42-year-old man, identified as Ogbole Henry, for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement released to the press on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Moses Yamu.

According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol Team during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Benin-Lagos Road, near the area commonly known as “Evil Forest.”

Yamu explained that the patrol team had intercepted a commercial bus traveling from Lagos to Benin. During the operation, all passengers were profiled, and others were allowed to continue their journey after Henry was found in possession of suspicious items.

Further investigation reportedly led to the recovery of a pump-action shotgun and a Lexus RX 330 vehicle allegedly linked to the suspect.

Henry, who hails from Ewu in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, has since been arraigned in court.

The police spokesperson also revealed that additional items recovered from the suspect include two locally fabricated pistols, eighteen rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and ten live cartridges.

Efforts, he said, are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspect’s criminal network.
