A farmer, identified as Magaji Mai’aya, has been killed while several others  including a police officer  sustained injuries following a violent clash between farmers and herders in Yelwan Musari village, Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

An eyewitness, Ado Musa, told newsmen that armed herders invaded the community between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, burning houses and local rice milling factories during the attack.

Musa said the fresh violence was triggered by months of rising tension, which began after the killing of another farmer, Ya’u Namara, by herders last year.

According to him, the herders also blocked the Guri–Hadejia highway after the latest incident, preventing residents from transporting the injured to the Hadejia General Hospital for treatment.

He added that security personnel arrived late at the scene and were unable to stop the situation from escalating, as both sides had already engaged in intense fighting since Saturday afternoon.

It remains unclear whether the herders suffered any casualties during the clash.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, were unsuccessful as he could not be contacted at the time of filing this report.
