The New Nigeria Peoples Party has denied reports that its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, endorsed any planned defection from the party.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said Kwankwaso’s remarks were taken out of context and deliberately misrepresented to suggest support for a move to the ruling APC.
Johnson explained that Kwankwaso did not directly or indirectly approve the defection of any party member or governor.
He warned against dragging Kwankwaso’s name into political decisions, especially in a way that could mislead supporters in Kano State.
Johnson maintained that any member who wishes to leave the NNPP is free to do so without falsely claiming Kwankwaso’s backing.
