The National Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI) has applauded the Jigawa State House of Assembly for its renewed commitment to tackling poverty and improving the livelihoods of citizens across the state.

The Secretary of the Jigawa State chapter of NASSI, Comrade Danlami Shuaibu, made the commendation while addressing newsmen in his office on Tuesday.

He noted that the state government has continued to intensify efforts to confront the high rate of poverty, which he described as a major factor fueling various social vices. He added that the State Assembly under the leadership of speaker Jigawa State House of Assembly Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin has complemented these efforts by introducing an empowerment programme as part of its constituency projects across the 30 constituencies of the state.

According to him, under the initiative, each lawmaker received ₦30 million earmarked for empowering constituents through grants and economic support packages.

“Through this initiative, which is the first of its kind in the country, thousands of people have benefitted from grants and empowerment packages that have significantly improved their economic conditions,” he said.

Comrade Danlami listed some of the items distributed to beneficiaries to include water pumping machines, grinding machines, pasta-making machines, cars, motorcycles, tricycles, sewing machines, among others.

He further revealed that NASSI will collaborate with the State Assembly to train beneficiaries in marketing, access to finance, processing, and packaging to ensure sustainability of the empowerment programme.

The NASSI secretary also commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his unwavering commitment to poverty reduction and economic development in Jigawa State.
