Tension gripped residents of Dutse Local Government Area in Jigawa State on Friday following the discovery of a decomposed male body on Kandahar Hill.
A local resident told STANDARD TRUST NEWS that the body was found early Friday morning by children playing near the hill in Dutse metropolis. Rumors quickly spread that some body parts had been removed, causing panic in the community.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, refuted the claims. In an official statement, he confirmed the discovery but clarified that no body parts were missing.
According to SP Shiisu, the incident was reported to the Dutse Police Division by a Good Samaritan on September 16, 2025, at about 3:45 p.m.
The deceased was identified as Ado Barau, also known as “Jojo,” a 37-year-old resident of Kasarau Fagoji in Dutse metropolis, who was reportedly suffering from a mental health disorder.
Police detectives from the Dutse Division responded promptly to the scene. Due to the advanced state of decomposition and strong odor, the body was buried at the location with the assistance of the local government’s welfare department.
The burial was conducted in the presence of the deceased’s relatives, the representative of the district head, the ward head of Fagoji, and personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and members of the local community.
The Jigawa State Police Command has urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation that could incite panic. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest security agency for swift intervention.
