The Jigawa Manpower Development Institute (MDI) has taken a bold step toward transforming library services in the state, training 40 library officers on e-library operations and digital resource management.
Declaring the one-day capacity-building workshop open, the Director-General of MDI, Alhaji Umar Faruk Wada, said the training was part of efforts to modernize the management of information resources and align with global digital trends.
According to him, the programme aims to reposition librarians to meet the challenges of the digital era by equipping them with advanced skills for efficient information management and service delivery.
“This initiative is in line with our mandate to strengthen the capacity of the workforce in Jigawa and beyond. Libraries are evolving, and our librarians must evolve too—adapting to new technologies that define access to knowledge today,” Wada said.
He emphasized that libraries remain the backbone of knowledge preservation and dissemination, adding that the digital shift would make information more accessible to students, researchers, and the public.
Participants, drawn from ministries, departments, agencies, private institutions, and media organizations, were trained on topics such as Digital Libraries and Comparative Analysis, Information Dissemination, Government and Administration in Library Practices, and Collection Development.
The workshop reflects MDI’s broader commitment to building a digitally competent workforce capable of driving innovation and efficiency across Jigawa State’s public and private sectors.
