Former Governor of Jigawa State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has said no right-thinking person from the North will vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Lamido made the remark while speaking at a meeting of the PDP expanded caucus held in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
He lamented that for years, Nigerians — particularly in the North — have been suffering under what he described as the “bad leadership” of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which, according to him, has brought poverty, insecurity, and untold hardship upon the country.
The former governor accused successive APC administrations of inflicting “hardship, deceit, and betrayal” on the Nigerian people.
According to him, “We have been telling people that Tinubu does not like the North, nor does he support anything that would develop the region. During his tenure as Governor of Lagos, Northerners were maltreated, attacked, and even killed.
“In 2023, both the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Ohanaeze, Afenifere, and other meaningful associations did not support Tinubu. He used money to influence support and win the election.
“We warned people not to entrust him with power, but they refused to listen — and now they are paying the consequences of their actions. It is quite unfortunate for any Northerner, despite whatever position he is holding — whether minister, governor, or lawmaker — to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“I don’t think a right-thinking person from the North will support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” Lamido declared.
He further said Nigeria can only be rescued from its current challenges if citizens unite irrespective of political, religious, and regional differences.
Lamido expressed optimism that, with the ongoing developments within the PDP, the party would soon return to normalcy and do everything possible to “save the country.”
