The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the brutal murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued to Newsmen on Sunday.
According to the statement, the arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, which led to a coordinated intelligence-led operation by a team of crack police operatives.
The suspects were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, popularly known as “Wawo,” of Sabon Gida, Sharada Quarters, all in Kano.
They were arrested during a sting operation conducted between 10:00 p.m. on January 17, 2026, and 4:00 a.m. on January 18, 2026.
Police said the alleged leader of the syndicate, Umar Auwalu who is a nephew of the deceased housewife confessed to committing the crime.
He also admitted that the same syndicate had been involved in other violent crimes in recent times, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
Items recovered from the suspects include four bloodstained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club (locally known as gora), some cash allegedly stolen from the scene, and other dangerous weapons.
The Kano State Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation, as well as members of the public, for their prayers, support, and cooperation.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators of crime are brought to justice.
Police confirmed that investigation into the case is ongoing.
