The Kano State Government has approved the establishment of a high-powered Mobilisation Taskforce on Voter Registration to boost citizens’ participation in the ongoing nationwide exercise.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Musa Tanko Muhammad, Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, and formally inaugurated by the SSG at a later date.

According to the government, the initiative is a strategic intervention designed to ensure maximum turnout of eligible Kano residents in line with the directives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The Taskforce is not a mere administrative arrangement but a decisive step towards promoting participatory democracy and ensuring that every eligible Kano citizen registers to vote,” the statement read.

The government also called on traditional rulers, civil society groups, political parties, trade unions, youth and women organisations, as well as the general public, to collaborate with the Taskforce in making the exercise a success.

It stressed that voter registration goes beyond routine paperwork, describing it as “a civic duty of extraordinary importance, a gateway to shaping the future of governance, and a guarantee that the voices of Kano people are heard at the ballot.”
