The Jigawa State Government has announced plans to sanction ministries, agencies, and industries that neglect their sanitation responsibilities.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Information Officer for Babura and Garki Local Government Areas, Suleman Daudu, and issued to newsmen.
According to the statement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Matters, Abdullahi Abba Jahun, disclosed the move during the Environmental Sanitation Committee’s inspection visit to Babura and Garki LGAs.
Abdullahi Abba said the committee has concluded plans to begin imposing fines on both government and private institutions found guilty of failing to comply with sanitation regulations.
He explained that the inspection tour aimed to assess the progress made during the last monthly environmental sanitation exercise and to encourage local leaders and stakeholders to sustain the program.
The Special Adviser reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening environmental protection initiatives as part of broader efforts to safeguard public health and promote cleaner communities.
He also called on community-based organizations and youth groups to actively participate in sanitation activities to enhance the wellbeing of their communities.
During the visit, the committee inspected hospitals, boarding schools, abattoirs, markets, and other public places to ensure compliance with sanitation standards
