The Jigawa State Government has approved the release of ₦1,547,614,974.00 as the payments of bursary allowance of 22,388 students studying in different tertiary institutions.
State Commissioner of Information Youth Sports and Culture Hon. Sagir Musa Ahmad disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of state executive Council meeting, on Tuesday.
The bursary allowance program is a continuation of His Excellency’s strategic agenda to foster access to quality education, reduce financial burdens on parents, and empower Jigawa’s youth to attain academic and professional excellence.
He explained that the approved amount is for payment of registration of 22,388 students studying at 83 tertiary institutions across the country.
According to him ” In line with the unwavering commitment of His Excellency, Malam Umar A. Namadi, to educational advancement and human capital development in Jigawa State, the Council has approved the disbursement of bursary allowances to eligible Jigawa State indigene studying in various tertiary institutions to the sum of One Billion, Five Hundred and Forty-Seven Million, Six Hundred and Fourteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy-Four Naira (₦1,547,614,974.00) only”
” This is intended to benefit a total of 22,388 students currently enrolled in 83 tertiary institutions within and outside Jigawa State”
Hon. Sagir said, the approval covered 13,622 male and 8,766 female students, reflecting the administration’s inclusive approach to supporting educational aspirations across gender deserving beneficiaries for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.
The bursary allowance program, introduced by His Excellency Governor Umar Namadi, is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents following the increase in registration fees across higher institutions in the country.
The hike in fees had raised fears that many students unable to afford the charges might be forced to abandon their studies.
