The Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has summoned the Commissioner of Works, officials of the Due Process Office, and the contractor handling the Shuwarin–Wurma–Abaya–Chamo–Isari road project over delays and poor-quality work.
This followed an unscheduled inspection of the project site on Monday, while the Governor was en route to Chamo town for the official handover of climate-resilient infrastructure by UNICEF to the state government.
The 28.9-kilometre road project, awarded over three years ago at a cost of more than ₦6.6 billion, remains incomplete despite the state government’s efforts to settle all inherited contracts.
Governor Namadi expressed disappointment that billions of naira in additional funds were released to accommodate rising material costs, yet the road still shows visible defects, including poorly constructed culverts.
“This is unacceptable,” the Governor said. “The state government is not owing the contractor a single kobo, yet the project is still unfinished. Tell the contractor, the Commissioner, and the Due Process officials to report to my office immediately.”
He warned that his administration would not tolerate negligence or substandard work from any contractor handling state projects.
The Shuwarin–Wurma–Chamo–Abaya–Isari road is one of 26 projects inherited from the previous administration of Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
Governor Namadi’s government has already released payments to settle outstanding balances for all contractors handling these projects, in a bid to accelerate their completion.
