Jigawa State has been ranked the fastest-growing among the 19 Northern states and the FCT in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for 2024, after recording a 127.31% growth from ₦27.54 billion in 2023 to ₦62.60 billion in 2024.
This feat has earned Governor Umar Namadi a nomination for the Governor of the Year in IGR Award 2025 by REVENUE Magazine, a publication of Alford Conferences Limited.
The nomination letter, received in Dutse by the Executive Chairman of Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service (JIRS), Dr. Nasir Sabo Idris, stated that Jigawa also ranked: 14th among the 37 states in total IGR collectio, 5th in the North and FCT and 3rd in the North West zone.
The letter further revealed that Jigawa was the 11th most revenue-independent state in Nigeria in 2024, generating 31.94% of its total ₦195.97 billion revenue internally. The state’s federal allocation for the year stood at ₦133.37 billion.
Chairman of Alford Conferences and convener of the Nigerian States IGR Awards, Mr. Frederick Apeji, described Jigawa’s performance as “a significant achievement,” noting that it aligned with the national call for states to look inward for revenue rather than depend heavily on federal allocations.
Receiving the nomination on behalf of Governor Namadi, Dr. Idris thanked the organisers for recognising the state’s efforts.
He attributed the success to the governor’s long-standing role in reforming Jigawa’s revenue system since 2015, when he served as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning under former Governor Badaru Abubakar
