Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed the ₦1.47 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, paving the way for accelerated development and inclusive economic growth across the state.
The governor assented to the bill on Wednesday during a meeting of the Kano State Executive Council held at the Government House, Kano.
A statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the signing followed the passage of the bill by the Kano State House of Assembly last week.
Speaking before the signing, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Ismail Falgore, described the 2026 budget as historic, noting that it is the first budget in Northern Nigeria to exceed the ₦1 trillion mark.
Falgore explained that the legislature approved the appropriation bill to provide the executive arm with the legal framework required to sustain and expand ongoing developmental projects aimed at improving the living standards of Kano residents.
He further assured that the Assembly would continue to exercise its oversight responsibilities to ensure prudent implementation of the budget and effective utilization of public funds.
The appropriation law, totaling ₦1,477,829,666,131, was passed after extensive deliberations at the Committee of the Whole and its third reading during plenary, presided over by the Speaker. The Clerk of the House, Alhaji Bashir Diso, read the bill before its final passage.
Governor Yusuf had earlier presented a proposed budget estimate of ₦1,368,127,929,271 to the Assembly, tagged “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development.”
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility, the governor pledged prudent management of public resources and effective implementation of the budget to enhance the welfare of Kano citizens.
He added that the 2026 budget would prioritize critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare to promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life of residents across the state.
