Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has signed into law two key legislations aimed at transforming the state’s agriculture from subsistence practice into an industrialized sector.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, and made available to STANDARD TRUST NEWS.
According to the statement, the first legislation is an Executive Order establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development, a strategic step designed to fully harness Jigawa’s vast potential in the livestock sector.
The second is the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Service (JATS) Law 2025, which creates a specialized agency to drive the state’s agricultural industrialization agenda.
Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony, Governor Namadi described the two institutions as part of his administration’s unwavering commitment to implementing his 12-point agenda on agricultural development.
He noted that the Ministry of Livestock Development would play a critical role in repositioning the sector, recalling that Jigawa is home to one of the largest livestock markets in Africa.
On JATS, the Governor explained: “This agency is going to drive all of our agricultural transformation activities. It was born out of our desire to industrialize agriculture and will serve as a model, not only in Jigawa and northern Nigeria, but across the country.”
Governor Namadi stressed that the initiatives are central to his vision of transforming agriculture into a modern, job-creating sector that enhances food security and boosts Jigawa’s economy.
He commended the State Executive Council for approving the establishment of the two institutions and expressed confidence that they would deliver on their mandates.
