The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election in Jigawa State, Auwalu Isah Manzo, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside thousands of his supporters.
The development was confirmed to newsmen by the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Malam Garba Muhammad.
According to him, the defection followed the outcome of the recently concluded by-election, which was won by the APC candidate, Rabiu Mukhtar.
It was reported that Mukhtar polled 38,449 votes to defeat his closest rival, Manzo of the PDP, who secured 13,519 votes.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that Manzo’s decision to dump the PDP may not be unconnected with the internal crises currently rocking the party at both the state and national levels.
Malam Garba further disclosed that Manzo was attracted to the APC by the ongoing developmental projects being executed by the present administrations at both the state and federal levels.
He added that the former PDP candidate has pledged his full support to the APC and promised to work tirelessly to ensure the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
