The First Lady of Jigawa State, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi, has called for concerted efforts to tackle maternal mortality and safeguard the lives of women during childbirth.
She made the call on Monday while declaring open a five-day training workshop on reducing maternal deaths, held at the M-Town Conference Hall in Dutse.
The workshop, which brought together commissioners, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and women representatives, is designed to develop lasting solutions and strategies to improve maternal health across the state.
In her remarks, Hajiya Hadiza urged participants to use the platform to share practical ideas and workable recommendations that will protect mothers and strengthen family wellbeing in Jigawa.
“Together, we can build a Jigawa where every mother is safe, valued, and supported,” she said.
The First Lady also offered prayers for Allah’s blessings on the deliberations and for the safe return of all participants to their homes after the programme.
Maternal mortality remains a significant public health challenge in Nigeria, with rural states facing higher risks due to limited access to quality healthcare services, poverty, and socio-cultural barriers.
Stakeholders at the event are expected to develop an action plan that addresses gaps in maternal healthcare, strengthens community involvement, and enhances the capacity of health workers to handle pregnancy and childbirth complications.
