The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has called on world leaders to take urgent action to end the avoidable deaths of five million children who die globally every year.

Speaking at the Gates Foundation’s Goalkeepers event on Monday, Sanusi stressed that human life is sacred, especially that of children, which he described as a shared responsibility of all leaders.

The Emir urged wealthy nations to support low- and middle-income countries to sustain progress in tackling child mortality, hunger, and malnutrition.

“In Islam, all human life is sacred. The Qur’an says he who takes a human life without cause is like one who takes the life of all humanity, and he who saves one human life is like one who saves all humanity,” Sanusi said.

He lamented the continued exposure of children to hunger, malnutrition, and preventable deaths, describing it as a tragedy that should concern every human being.
