Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Ali Sa’adu Birnin Kudu, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace digital innovation as a viable pathway to job creation and a more secure future.
Birnin Kudu made the call on Thursday while speaking at the 7th Annual General Meeting of Muryar Birnin Kudu, held at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Birnin Kudu, where he served as chairman of the occasion.
The former governor said digital skills in areas such as information technology, agricultural technology, e-commerce and the creative industry have strong potential to reduce unemployment and stimulate sustainable economic growth across the country.
According to him, “The digital economy offers young people the opportunity to become employers of labour rather than job seekers.”
He called on governments at all levels, as well as the private sector, to invest more in digital education, innovation hubs and start-up support programmes to enable youths translate ideas into viable businesses.
Also speaking, a national chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Farooq Adamu Aliyu, urged youths to engage in productive investments within their communities and avoid participating in demonstrations capable of destroying public and private assets.
He said recent protests in the country had worsened youth unemployment due to the destruction of government and private investments.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Muryar Birnin Kudu, Ahmad Sa’id Kangire, said the organisation had recorded significant achievements in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture and youth development.
Kangire called on stakeholders—including politicians, traditional rulers, government officials and business leaders—to intensify efforts towards the immediate take-off of the Federal College of Education, Birnin Kudu, approved by the Federal Government.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to consider the reconstruction of the Wudil–Kari Road, describing it as a major route linking Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa states, and lamented its deplorable condition, which he said had continued to claim lives and property.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Birnin Kudu Local Government Council, Hon. Muhammad Uba, pledged the council’s support for the Muryar Birnin Kudu initiative towards achieving sustainable development in the area.
