The Borno State Government has announced plans to recruit 1,000 teachers as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning across public secondary schools in the state.
The teachers will be posted to 139 functional secondary schools, with special consideration for rural and hard-to-reach communities, in line with the directive of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Wakilbe, said the recruitment is aimed at addressing staffing gaps in newly constructed schools and revitalising the education sector after years of disruption caused by insurgency.
He disclosed that eight teachers recently granted automatic employment in Southern Borno would be included in the exercise. Wakilbe further assured that the Secondary School Education Board (SSEB) would ensure a transparent and credible recruitment process.
According to him, the state government also plans to employ specialised Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) teachers to enhance technical and skills-based learning in schools.
On his part, the Chairman of the SSEB, Professor Yusufu Balami, pledged fairness and professionalism throughout the recruitment process, urging qualified and dedicated applicants, particularly those willing to serve in rural areas, to apply.
Meanwhile, in a related development aimed at promoting inclusive education, the state government has approved over ₦28.6 million in support of Future Assured College, a school for underprivileged children.
Engr. Wakilbe commended the school’s founder, Aisha Buhari, for her commitment to educating vulnerable children, while the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Bulama Kagu, described the intervention as a significant step toward expanding access to quality education in Borno State.
