A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Alwan Hassan, has alleged that most ministers who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari abused their offices and should be prosecuted.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Hassan accused the Buhari administration of weak oversight, claiming ministers were given excessive freedom over public funds.
“There was no supervision. Capital budgets were fully released and nobody questioned how the money was spent. If the books are opened, 95 per cent of those ministers should be in jail,” he said.
Hassan suggested that Buhari may have been aware of irregularities, alleging that some ministers were advised to keep their records in case they were later questioned.
Comparing administrations, he praised President Bola Tinubu as more hands-on, particularly in financial management, and said opposition to Tinubu’s policies was expected.
On security, Hassan defended the current government, dismissing claims of worsening insecurity and citing recent security successes, including the rescue of abducted students in Kebbi State.
He also attributed internal criticism within the APC to rivalry and envy, especially in the North, and said divisions within the party in Kano State have weakened its chances against NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
According to him, the APC cannot win Kano in future elections without negotiating or forming an alliance with Kwankwaso.
