The First Lady of Jigawa State, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi, has called on parents and caregivers to ensure their eligible children are presented for the ongoing Measles and Rubella vaccination exercise across the state.
She made the call in her keynote address during the official flag-off ceremony of the Integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign held at Gantsa town, Buji Local Government Area.
Hajiya Hadiza underscored the dangers of vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly measles and rubella, stressing that immunization remains a vital tool in safeguarding child health and reducing preventable deaths.
The First Lady symbolically administered the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to a child, marking the official commencement of the campaign and reaffirming her commitment to the wellbeing of children and families in Jigawa State.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, represented by the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHCDA), Dr. Shehu Sambo, said the campaign targets over three million children aged 0–14 years across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
He explained that the exercise, which began on Monday, October 6, 2025, will run for ten days and conclude on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
Dr. Sambo commended the administration of Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi and development partners for their sustained efforts in strengthening public health systems and expanding immunization coverage across the state.
In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Buji Local Government Area, Hon. Najibullah Falalu, reaffirmed his council’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare and urged parents to actively participate in the campaign to protect their children from preventable diseases.
