President Bola Tinubu has officially lifted the state of emergency in Rivers State and directed Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resume office on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, Tinubu also instructed Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and Speaker Martins Amaewhule to return to their respective duties.

The state of emergency was declared six months ago following heightened political tensions and security concerns in the oil-rich state.

Announcing the end of the emergency, President Tinubu stated:

“It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today.”

With this declaration, normal governance is expected to resume across all arms of the state government starting Thursday.
