The main opposition, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the administration of Governor Umar Namadi in Jigawa State to review the payroll system and eliminate ghost workers in order to free up resources for development projects.
The call was made by the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel, in a post on his official Facebook page, while reacting to a recent BudgIT report that ranked Jigawa among the lowest states in budget performance.
According to him, “We, the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), express our deep concern over the recently released BudgIT report, which ranked our dear state lowest in budget performance among Nigeria’s 36 states.”
He noted that the report revealed poor capital budget implementation, with critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure receiving far less than what was allocated.
Hon. Babandi described the revelation as “not just disappointing, but also a wake-up call” for the government to take urgent steps toward the state’s development.
The PDP chairman advised the APC-led administration to prioritize capital projects, strengthen internally generated revenue mechanisms, cut wasteful recurrent spending, improve transparency, and build institutional capacity.
“We call on the Governor to act swiftly and decisively to restore fiscal discipline, rebuild public trust, and reposition our state for inclusive growth,” he added
