The Jigawa State Government has flagged off the construction of a 34.2-kilometre road in Jahun Local Government Area, reaffirming its commitment to easing the transportation challenges faced by farmers and rural dwellers.
Governor Umar Namadi, while performing the groundbreaking ceremony, said the road would stretch from Kwanar Idonduna through Kadowawa and Gangawa to Kwanar Olayinka.
He disclosed that the project, awarded at a contract sum of ₦12.9 billion, is expected to be completed within 24 months.
Namadi explained that the provision of access roads remains central to his administration’s agenda of improving the movement of goods and people, particularly farmers who face difficulties in taking their produce to markets.
He revealed that his administration has so far completed 25 out of the 26 road projects inherited from the previous government.
The governor added that the Kwanar Idonduna–Olayinka road is one of 47 road projects awarded under his administration at a total cost of over ₦300 billion.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Works and Transport, Engineer Gambo S. Malam, said the government is simultaneously undertaking township roads in Aujara town at a cost of ₦3.4 billion.
He added that the construction of feeder roads is ongoing across the state as part of efforts to boost rural economies and improve the livelihoods of farming communities.
