Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has called on Nigerians across political divides to unite in defense of democracy, warning that the current political tensions could endanger the country’s democratic journey.

Lamido made the appeal in a post on his official Facebook page while reacting to the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to him, reports making the rounds suggest that some state chairmen of the PDP were allegedly invited by “the lords of Nigeria” and directed to frustrate efforts aimed at disciplining the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his allies.

He described the development as a deliberate attempt to weaken the PDP, stressing that such desperation posed a greater danger to Nigeria’s democracy.

“This desperation to hasten the collapse of the PDP will inevitably hasten the collapse of our nascent democracy with dire consequences,” Lamido warned.

The former governor urged members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the opposition parties, and all Nigerians to rise above partisan interests and work collectively to safeguard the democratic system.

“Let us all unite and save democracy, the APC government and all the opposition parties,” he added.

Lamido, a founding member of the PDP, has been a vocal critic of actions and policies he believes could derail Nigeria’s democratic progress. His latest remarks come at a time when the PDP is struggling with internal divisions, particularly over Wike’s influence and the party’s leadership direction.
