Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has called on citizens to renew their commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous, inclusive and knowledge-driven state as Jigawa marks its 35th anniversary.
This was contained in a press statement signed by chief press secretary Hamisu Muhimmanci Gumel issued to newsmen on Thursday.
He said , the Governor made the call in his anniversary message on, urging the people to reflect on the contributions of the state’s founding fathers and past leaders while focusing on the responsibilities of the present and future generations.
The governor said the greatest tribute to those who contributed to the creation and development of Jigawa was not merely to remember their names, but to uphold the ideals of peace, justice, opportunity and responsible management of public resources.
He urged citizens to support efforts aimed at strengthening institutions, investing in young people, protecting vulnerable citizens and promoting sustainable socioeconomic development.
Namadi described the anniversary as an opportunity to “honour yesterday, serve today and prepare for tomorrow,” stressing the need for collective responsibility in shaping the future of the state.
He also called for the continued understanding, patience and support of the people as his administration implements its development agenda anchored on sustainable development, socioeconomic wellbeing, peace and prosperity.
Jigawa State was created on August 27, 1991, by the then Federal Military Government under the leadership of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, after being carved out of the old Kano State, with Dutse as its capital.
The governor expressed gratitude to Allah for the state’s 35-year journey and acknowledged the contributions of successive administrations, traditional rulers, public servants, farmers, traders, teachers, health workers, entrepreneurs, religious leaders, security personnel and other citizens.
He prayed for Allah’s continued blessings upon Jigawa State and Nigeria, while asking for reward for those who served the state and forgiveness for those who had passed away.
