Jigawa State Government says it will continue to support vulnerable children and address poverty, gender-related barriers and social exclusion that prevent them from accessing education.
Governor Umar Namadi stated this in Friday while speaking at the flagging off the distribution of educational support materials to female students in post-basic schools across the state.
According to him” Our administration is committed to ensuring that “no child is denied education for any reason, social or economic,” to improve access, retention and completion of schooling”
Governor Namadi explained that, the intervention was designed to reduce the cost of schooling for parents, encourage attendance, promote dignity among learners and support menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls.
“Today we are distributing 48,300 school uniforms, 15,000 school bags, 40,000 sanitary pads, 4,000 sets of writing materials and 40,000 exercise books to female students at the post-basic level”
Namadi said the intervention was part of a broader strategy to create a more conducive learning environment, reduce gender disparity and improve learning outcomes across the state.
“When a girl is educated, the benefit goes beyond the individual child. It improves family health, strengthens household income, and contributes to society’s overall development,” he said.
The Governor also disclosed that the government had concluded arrangements and awarded contracts for similar educational support materials at the basic education level.
He called on parents, teachers, traditional and religious leaders, school-based management committees, civil society organisations and development partners to support the government’s efforts.
