A major political reshuffle has hit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State as 12 serving state and federal lawmakers lost their chances of returning to office following the party’s recently concluded primary elections.
Eight members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly failed to secure the APC ticket to contest in the 2027 general elections after party stakeholders adopted a consensus arrangement across various constituencies.
The affected state lawmakers include Abubakar Sadiq Muhammad Jallo of Hadejia Constituency, Mas’ud Abdulrahman Naruwa of Babura, Idris Garba of Jahun, Ibrahim Ya’u of Gagarawa, Aliyu Ahmad Aliyu of Kiri-Kasamma, Muhammad Adamu of Kafin Hausa, Yusuf Ahmed of Bulangu, and Aminu Sule of Ringim.
The lawmakers reportedly lost out during stakeholders’ screening and consensus meetings held by the party ahead of the primaries.
Similarly, four serving members of the House of Representatives also failed to secure their party’s nomination for another term.
They are Usman Ibrahim, representing Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency; Sa’idu Yusif of Jahun/Miga Federal Constituency; Sa’adu Wada of Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency; and Muhammad Muktar of Kazaure/Gwiwa/Roni Federal Constituency.
Findings revealed that the affected federal lawmakers did not participate in the APC primary elections, which concluded on Wednesday and late Saturday across the state.
The lawmakers were unable to obtain the backing of constituency leaders during APC stakeholders’ meetings, as delegates and party stakeholders opted to support new aspirants in what observers describe as a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
