Jigawa State Government has suspended several contractors supplying food to state hospitals and boarding schools following the discovery of serious lapses during a surprise overnight inspection.
Jigawa State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties, Hon. Auwal D. Sankara disclosed this during inspection to some schools and hospitals in Tuesday.
He said, the inspection was carried out to enforce strict compliance with Governor Umar A. Namadi’s welfare policies under the administration’s 12-Point Agenda.
Some of the Hospitals and schools including, Dutse General Hospital,
Gwaram Cottage Hospital, Government Girls Unity Secondary School (GGUSS), Gwaram and Bamaina Academy.
During the inspection, the commissioner observed that patients and students were served substandard meals despite state Government increment of funds for schools and hospitals feedings.
According to him” Hospital’s feeding contractor, Alhaji Sule Abdu, as well as the kitchener were suspended over poor food quality, incomplete supplies and unacceptable practices”
“Another contractor at Gwaram Cottage Hospital, was suspended over what the Commissioner described as a complete breakdown in the management of the feeding programme”
At Gifted in Bamaina, Hon. Sankara however expressed dissatisfaction with meal standards and announced an imminent review of the feeding policy, warning that future payments would be strictly tied to service quality.
The Commissioner said the state government would sustain surprise inspections, including midnight visits, to ensure that food meant for patients and students is delivered in the right quality and quantity.
