An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Jigawa State and Deputy Director-General (North) of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Hon. (Engr.) Magaji Da’u Aliyu, has received two honorary awards in recognition of his sustained contributions to education, community development and religious advancement.
The awards were conferred separately by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Centre for Qur’anic Promotion and Reciters at Birnin Kudu, his hometown in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking after receiving the NUT award, the former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Power described the honour as an encouragement to deepen his commitment to public service. He said his interventions in education and community development were driven by a sense of responsibility rather than a quest for recognition.
“This honour is a morale booster. Whatever we do is our modest contribution to the development and upliftment of our people,” he said.
Engr. Magaji Da’u Aliyu also commended Governor Umar Namadi for prioritising education through increased funding, timely release of resources and strategic investments in manpower and infrastructure at both basic and tertiary levels.
Earlier, the Chairman of NUT in Birnin Kudu, Alhaji Musa Muhammad, said the award was part of efforts to recognise individuals who have made tangible impacts on education through financial, material and moral support. He noted that Hon. Magaji Da’u Aliyu was selected strictly on merit, citing his consistent support for teachers’ welfare, learning facilities and youth development.
Muhammad added that the union had facilitated degree programmes through the National Teachers Institute (NTI) and supported the establishment of the College of Education, Gumel Campus, to expand access to Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes. He said the awardee had also sponsored students to colleges of education to acquire teaching qualifications.
In his remarks, the District Head of Birnin Kudu, Alhaji Husain Hassan Jibrin, urged the NUT to strengthen school monitoring and inspection to improve attendance and learning outcomes across the local government.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Muryar Birnin Kudu, Alhaji Ahmad Sa’id Kangire, announced plans to inaugurate a committee to ensure transparent disbursement of educational donations raised during the association’s annual general meeting.
Meanwhile, the Centre for Qur’anic Promotion and Reciters said its honour was in recognition of Engr. Magaji Da’u Aliyu’s commitment to Islamic education and religious infrastructure.
The centre’s chairman, Sheikh Gwani Yusif Hamza Yusif, said the former lawmaker had sponsored the construction of Islamiyya schools and mosques across parts of Jigawa State and beyond, as well as provided teaching and learning materials.
“People who support Islam and the Muslim community the way Dr. (Engr.) Magaji Da’u Aliyu does are very few,” he said, praying for divine blessings and protection for the awardee.
The double recognition, community leaders said, reflects the growing impact of Magaji Da’u Aliyu’s interventions at the intersection of education, faith and grassroots development in Jigawa State.
