The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly dismissed reports suggesting a possible replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such claims as speculative and baseless.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, said the APC’s attention had been drawn to what he described as a growing media frenzy over the alleged plan, noting that the rumours recently escalated with the mention of specific individuals as potential replacements.
Morka stressed that the stories were “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” urging media organisations to refrain from amplifying unverified claims and granting space to rumour-mongers whose intentions, he said, were to sow discord and confusion in the polity.
He further noted that under existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force, adding that the party is not engaged in any discussions relating to the 2027 elections at this time.
According to him, the APC remains fully focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including the implementation of reforms aimed at transforming the economy, building prosperity and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
The party also cautioned its ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against making comments that could fuel unnecessary speculation, urging them instead to concentrate on effective service delivery and strengthening the achievements of the Tinubu-led administration.
Morka reaffirmed the APC’s confidence in President Tinubu, whom he described as a visionary leader, and reiterated the party’s commitment to unity, stability and good governance.
