The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested five suspected drug dealers and recovered 2,188 assorted illicit drugs in a coordinated operation across parts of the state.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended during intelligence-led operations carried out in Gumel, Maigatari, Sara, and Gujungu towns as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking.
“As part of the Command’s sustained war against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, coordinated operations were carried out in Gumel, Maigatari, Sara, and Gujungu towns,” the statement said.
Those arrested were identified as Sadik Yahaya, Musa Isiyaku, Dauda Yakubu, Auwalu Lado, and Habibu Abdullahi.
SP Adam disclosed that exhibits recovered from the suspects included two blocks of cannabis sativa and 2,188 assorted illicit drugs.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Dahiru Muhammad, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across Jigawa State.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
The Police Commissioner added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
