The United States Department of War has released video footage showing airstrikes carried out against terrorist targets in Nigeria.
According to the footage and official statements, the strikes were conducted in parts of Sokoto State and were described by US authorities as highly effective.
US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, earlier confirmed the operation, stating that American forces had carried out what he described as “deadly” strikes against terrorist elements operating in Nigeria.
The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) later corroborated the development, noting that the operation aligned with remarks previously made by President Donald Trump, who described the strikes as powerful.
President Trump said the action was in fulfilment of a promise he made last month to target terrorist groups he accused of killing innocent Christians.
Despite the description of the operation as successful, details of casualties resulting from the strikes have not yet been disclosed.
Providing further insight, security expert Brant Philip said the strikes may have been launched from the USS Paul Ignatius using Tomahawk missiles.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed the airstrikes, noting that the operation was successful.
