Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has assured public servants that his administration will put an end to the uncertainty surrounding the payment of pensions, gratuities, and other lawful entitlements.
The governor gave the assurance on Wednesday during the disbursement of severance gratuities, accommodation, and leave allowances to 1,371 former councillors who served between 2021 and 2024.
A statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the exercise, tagged the Final Tranche, took place at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, and involved a total sum of ₦8.26 billion.
Yusuf was quoted as saying that his administration was determined to ensure that no public servant who had served the state faithfully would be left in doubt over what was rightfully due to them.
He explained that the government had introduced reforms aimed at preventing the accumulation of arrears and opening a new chapter of accountability and certainty for public and civil servants in the state.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to prudent governance, people-oriented policies, and the restoration of public confidence in state institutions, urging residents to join hands in building a fairer, stronger, and more prosperous Kano.
He also expressed appreciation to the people of the state for encouraging the government to uphold transparency, prudence, and compassion in governance.
According to the statement, several former councillors received instant payment alerts during the ceremony, with individual amounts ranging between ₦5 million and ₦6 million.
