The Federal Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency (JATA), has organised a Final Validation Workshop on the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) and the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Study Report for Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders, technical experts and community representatives from Gagarawa Gari, Medu, Kore Balatu and Zaranda communities to review, validate and make inputs on the findings of the ESIA conducted for the proposed SAPZ project.

Speaking at the event, the Director General of JATA, alongside other dignitaries, reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal and Jigawa State governments to inclusive development, environmental sustainability and active community participation in the implementation of major development projects.

Participants at the workshop were briefed on the potential environmental and social impacts of the SAPZ project, as well as proposed mitigation measures aimed at safeguarding livelihoods, protecting the environment and ensuring that host communities derive maximum benefits from the initiative.

Community representatives commended the organisers for the consultative approach adopted in the planning process, describing it as a positive step towards transparency, accountability and sustainable development.

The validation exercise is expected to strengthen the final ESIA report and guide the effective implementation of the SAPZ project in line with national and international environmental standards.

The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone project is designed to boost agricultural value chains, create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Jigawa State, while ensuring that development is environmentally sound and socially responsible.
